Article Launched: 06/29/2008 07:32:58 AM PDT The proposed "Octagonal Chancel," a schematic master church plan in Fairfield created by local designer K L. Stout Design, in association with TBA Architects, was recognized at the 58th American Institute of Building Design Awards program during the organization's annual convention held recently in Sacramento. The "Octagonal Chancel" design received an "Honor Award" in the unbuilt category of the competition. The award recognizes design excellence. Stout has received numerous AIBD Design Awards in the past 15 years. His efforts began in 2006, when the local jazz trumpeter was approached by church staff to enter a design competition for a proposed sanctuary expansion at Rockville Presbyterian Fellowship Church. The AIBD judges, a group of renowned architects and building designers, admired "the Octagonal Chancel" for its use of spaces as well as its aesthetic uniqueness and smart energy-efficient design. "The proposed addition provides impressive new elements while blending with the existing, and a well arranged good use of the octagonal form," the judges noted.
