Get Hamilton Moving

Description

About Us

The Get Hamilton Moving Task Force is a group of citizens who are united on one issue: the urgent need to complete the Red Hill Creek Expressway without delay. The Task Force is engaged in an uphill struggle to counter a destructive campaign of misleading and exaggerated claims made by Expressway opponents which resulted in a 3 year delay in the commencement of the north-south leg of the expressway. Only through court action was the project finally allowed to resume.

In poll after poll and election after election, the will of the majority of Hamiltonians to see this vital transportation link become a reality has been demonstrated. After many setbacks, and delays it appeared after the 1995 provincial election that the expressway would finally become a reality. The provincial government and the Region of Hamilton Wentworth came to agreement on a process that would fund the highway, while also providing for the most extensive environmental stakeholder input ever used on a highway project in Ontario. Expressway opponents were invited to participate in the environmental review, but they walked out of the stakeholder committee after an unsuccessful attempt to take control of the mandate of the committee. The committee continued and kept all stakeholders, including opponents, abreast of their work. Finally, after many consultants were heard from on virtually every environmental aspect of the project, the stakeholder committee released a draft report detailing the extraordinary environmental mitigation steps which would be used on the Red Hill Creek Expressway.

Natural stabilization of a creek that if left in its present state will wipe out many acres of the valley through erosion.
