Title

THE FOUNDATION of BUDDHIST THOUGHT

Description

Jamyang, the Tibetan name for the Bodhisattva of Wisdom (Skt: Manjushri), is a London meditation and study centre in the Gelugpa tradition affiliated with the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition. Starting in 1968 in someone's living room, it has grown into an active and vigorous Dharma centre with a range of activities from classes on Buddhism and meditation and regular retreats to services such as hospice training and help for carers.

Besides the regular older students who teach at the Centre and tutor the Foundation of Buddhist Thought course, Jamyang has been so fortunate in having two great resident teachers. For about ten years, Geshe Wangchen, author of Awakening the Mind of Enlightenment, led the Centre and since 1994 Geshe Tashi Tsering has been the resident teacher.

In 1994 Jamyang moved to the Old Courthouse, in Kennington, just south of the River Thames. Since then it has come close to the initial vision to provide an oasis of peace and harmony in the centre of the city.
