Minnesota Boychoir

Description

The Minnesota Boychoir, the oldest continuously operating boychoir in the Twin Cities area, traces its history back over forty years. The ensemble was established in 1962 as the Morris Nilsen Boys Choir, named after its founder. This small group of boys provided community service music in association with a funeral home in Richfield.

In 1970, Paul Pfeiffer was chosen to serve as Director of the Boychoir and under his leadership, the organization flourished. The Boys Choir name was changed to The Minnesota Boychoir in 1973; the group incorporated as a non-profit in 1975. Mr. Pfeiffer, his wife Virginia, and their close friends William and Marge Bailey worked tirelessly to improve the choir's performance quality. New choristers were recruited and the Boychoir's visibility increased as it presented more concerts throughout the Twin Cities, often at local hospitals.

In 1982, Mr. Pfeiffer led the Boychoir on tour to Vienna and, in following years, to Japan and Czechoslovakia. Paul Pfeiffer retired in 1993 after twenty-three years of distinguished voluntary service as the Minnesota Boychoir Director. He appointed Boychoir accompanist Mark Johnson to succeed him.
