Boulder Digital Arts, the first organization of its kind in the Boulder area, was formed by Bruce Borowsky and Zach Daudert after many years of consideration. The catalyst for the organization came after Bruce and Zach served together on the board of directors for CATV, Boulder’s Community Television station. That experience revealed the tremendous amount of creative and talented people in this community and the apparent need for an organization that would be a central resource for digital artists to meet, network, show their work, obtain expert training and eventually have access to a state-of-the-art media production facility.
It was clear, even at that time, that Boulder needed a resource organization that embraced the rapid integration of digital mediums as an exciting new environment and platform for creative, aesthetic and commercial experimentation and new work.
Since that time, technology has evolved rapidly, enabling more people to become interested or active in the digital arts. Today the laptop computer this is being written on offers video editing capabilities matching or exceeding $50,000 post-production systems from less than a decade ago. At the same time the internet has revolutionized the way information and entertainment is delivered and DVDs are the fastest adopted consumer technology in history. All of this change creates a formidable challenge for people working in the field to stay current and embrace the latest in tools and technology.
