Title

Center for the Arts : Rutherford County : Murfreesboro, Tennessee

Description

The mission of the City-County Cultural Arts Comission/Center for the Arts is to create a welcoming place where guests of diverse cultural backgrounds find value and perspective by experiencing the arts. The Center is dedicated to promoting a deeper interest in multicultural creative expression through performing arts programming and exhibitions, encouraging the preservation of our community’s artistic and cultural resources, and promoting the highest professional standards.

The Center for the Arts is an Italianate structure built in 1909 by the U.S. Department of Treasury on the site of an old livery station. The building originally served as the Post Office and later became the Linebaugh Library. After the library relocated, the building became the Center for the Arts. The CFTA opened to the public on December 1, 1995 and the renovation of the building was awarded the Governor’s Award for Economic and Community Development. Since it’s opening, the Center for the Arts has been presenting visual art exhibitions, theatre series, dance and music performances and theatre and arts classes ever since.
