Blogsvine came online on February 25th, 2008 using popular social bookmarking software Pligg. In one month the Alexa ranking of Blogsvine rose to about 200,000. As of writing this article (April 20th, 2008), Blogsvine has 1003 registered members, 3381 submitted articles (out of which 2095 are published) and 452 comments from various members of the community.
Functionality
Blogsvine is a basically a social bookmarking website for blogs. Users submit links to their latest blog articles along with a description or an excerpt. The article submitted by the members first rest in the Blogsvine Upcoming section until they are voted certain number of times by other members of the community. Once a story or submission receives a threshold number of votes, it is promoted to the front page of the website. At present, the threshold vote for blog articles to be transfered to the front page from the upcoming page is 6.
Stories can be submitted to 14 categories and each submission should consists of original url of the blog article, tags, a short description of about two or three sentences. Each submission should go in one of the available 14 categories.
Tools
Blogsvine has some tools that can be integrated in the blogs. Members can download these tools from the Blogsvine Website. At present, they have developed a wordpress plugin that can be integrated into wordpress blogs. With the plugin installed, a blogger can show a "vote me" button in all the post published on that blog.
