BlakeNeedsHelp.com Kidney Transplant Fundraiser to help raise funds
Mr. Blake Walkup has been a dedicated Public Servant all of his life.
He started in the Boy Scouts when he became an Emergency Medical Technician and for his Eagle Scout project he organized the Giles Lifesaving Junior Rescue Squad, an organization that is still in service to this date. Instead of playing sports in high school, Blake was there with the ambulance working the events with the volunteer rescue squad.
Blake began running volunteer ambulance calls and started to advance his training in pre hospital care to include paramedic.
Blake also was a volunteer fire fighter for many years and work in Law Enforcement for 12 years in Virginia before having his first transplant. He was in his late 20’s when he had his first transplant. Soon after the first transplant he left Law Enforcement to work as a paramedic in Florida. Since 2000 Blake has worked the streets as a medic or in an emergency room as a medic and his public service has continued.
In February 2010 he lost his kidney transplant and had to return to dialysis. He started on Hemo Dialysis and hated every single second of Hemo dialysis. Some people can function just fine on Hemo, not Blake. It was truly sickening to see a man like Blake unable to function as a person while on Hemo Dialysis. During the Hemo Dialysis times Blake normally stayed in bed pretty much all the time, every time he would stand up he would feel like he was going to pass out. Even though the doctors thought Blake had some improvement on Hemo Dialysis, Blake felt like he could not function as a person.
Soon he was switched to Peritoneal Dialysis and his functions as a person started to come back and Blake started walking at least 10 miles a day, could cook and eat again and was able to drive again. Then the doctors really saw some improvements in Blake’s condition.
Even through all of this Blake had to spend every penny he had in savings, checking and even his retirement accounts to live. Not one single agency has provided assistance to Blake during these times and that lead him to create Help Save My Life.
Not only has Blake decided to host fund raisers so he can get his Kidney Transplant, he along with our group of volunteers has decided to start Help Save My Life Foundation.
A volunteer organization to help other Kidney Failure patients get the funds they need to live and have Kidney Transplant. So Blake’s public services continue.
From the comments and emails from many people visiting Blake’s web site www.blakeneedshelp.com we have learned that Blake has made a very positive impact in many peoples life even though he did not mean too. He was posting stuff related to his situation to keep people informed about how messed up our medical system is and all of the sudden emails and comments started coming in to tell Blake how awesome his positive attitude has impacted their life.
Blake has truly been a very dedicated public servant regardless of what uniform he has worn, he truly loves to be there to help others in their time of need.
Blake will also be working with you and your group to help you raise the funds that you need to live and get the transplant you deserve. We want to work with the patients that have had their transplant placed on hold for financial reasons first but as we get more volunteers and donations we can help more people.
Even though Blake has made positive impacts in people’s life, please also keep in mind Blake is also going through the same things you are. Some days are better than others and we have learned that Blake tries his best to make the best out of every day regardless of what’s going on in his life and with his treatments.
