- The first sign and symptom of lower back pain following a lifting, falling or twisting incident is pain in the lower back. In this case foot dorsiflexion is hampered due to muscle paralysis. Urgent investigations such as a CT scan or MRI scan is needed, particularly if there is urinary incontinence or bowel leakage present as an additional symptom.
