Title
Welcome to BillNet Research
Description
I am a graduate student in Computer Science at The University of Cambridge. I am beginning the first year of my Ph.D. Last year I did an M.Phil. in Linguistics, also at Cambridge. My research interests mostly involve artificial intelligence including speech synthesis, natural language processing, biomedical text mining, and wearable computing. I began my work at The University of Georgia, where I did a Bachelors and a Masters in Mathematics.
The motivating application for my speech synthesis work is to build a more natural sounding and intelligible reading machine for the blind. I have written the Cynthia Speech Engine which is an original speech synthesis system that I use to develop and test new linguistic models of speech. My work is focused on modeling prosodic aspects of speech, particularly rhythm.
I am currently doing work in the area of Biomedical Text Mining. I am working with the Cambridge FlyBase team to automatically extract protein and gene information from papers published in genetics journals.
