- The Big Dome is 39 ft. in diameter with a 10 ft. by 16 ft. extension that serves as our entrance way. The dome is almost completely surrounded by wooden decks. Our home is heated only by a wood burning stove and the sun. The pentagon shaped skylight faces south. Four skylights and large windows give us a lot of heat from the sun. Our solar panels help heat our hot water. That system saves us about $17.00 a month. The dome was built with all 2X6 lumber on the exterior walls. These walls and triangles are insulated with polyurethane foam.
