I was born and grew up in Houston, where I played football from elementary through high school. I earned my bachelor's degree in Psychology from Stephen F. Austin, and my law degree from Southern Methodist University. I began running long distance in college, completing four marathons over the years, as well as a multitude of other races.
After I began practicing law in a large Dallas firm in 1996, I found I had little time to run or pay attention to my diet as I focused on my career; by 2000, I had gained considerable weight. This "heaviness" seemed a metaphor for what my experience of life had become -- my job, my personal life, my spirit--all were stuck.
In January 2001, one of my best friends introducted me to Bikram Yoga in the Dallas yoga studio. In a short period of time my body and life were transformed. After practicing just a few months, I knew I wanted to be an instructor, to be a part in helping yoga make a difference for others the way it had for me. Whether it is weight loss, increased strength or flexibility, a new found peace, or the many other changes I see in the students that walk through the door, being part of that transformation is inspiring and life-affirming. This yoga is a conduit for change. I believe it because I've lived it. Friends, family, and colleagues are constantly telling me how I have changed since beginning Bikram Yoga, and I witness the magic at work all around me everyday at the studio.
