Black Hills Museum of Natural History - Home

Description

Excerpted from the website:

In 1991, shortly after the discovery of the fossil, subsequently named “SUE,” steps were taken to formally create the Black Hills Museum of Natural History. The Museum started incorporation procedures in 1992, and received their letter of IRS letter of determination qualifying them to be a non-profit museum. Fund raising for the museum started in 1991 when a group of elementary student of the Badger Clark School collected $624.37 to defray the costs of preparation of SUE the Tyrannosaurus rex. Those monies were assigned to the newly established Black Hills Museum of Natural History. In 1993 the museum site property was purchased and can be accessed through Museum Drive and/or Deerfield Road. The property is owned outright by the Museum. Through the funding activities from the last 14 years the Museum Board of Directors have started the next phase leading to the completion of this dream. Public support started early in the formation of the Board of Directors and the Advisory Council. Primary leaders of business, economic development, and public office have helped guide the process of the museum for many years.
