In 1953, Rudolph Berg brought a small wooden incubator and set it up in the family's living room. With a somewhat shocked, but supportive family behind him the Berg's first breeder flock was started.
By 1958, a little hatchery was set up on the family farm and the small wooden incubator was moved to it's new location. Additional equipment was purchased and the operation began to grow at an alarming rate. Finally in 1967 the family purchase the hatchery on the edge of Russell which had a capacity of setting eggs of 30,000. It was during these years that Rudolph's son Earle and his wife Betty joined the business. As the business grew so did the number of agents, product began to be shipped across Canada expanding our customer base.
Today Berg's Hatchery is owned and operated by Kevin and Connie Berg. Along with our two children, the hatchery continues to be run as a family business. As the third generation family business owners we have remained focused on the small producers of Canada. We currently have an egg setting capacity of 252,000 and have a 6000 bird breeder flock for the Cornish Giants. We also have two producers for our egg layers in the surrounding area. In the past few years we have expanded the types of poultry that we sell and continue to offer an always changing selection of specialty birds, exotic ducks and geese.
