Title

Beni Iguana’s Sushi Bar & Restaurant - St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands

Description

On February 14, (Valentines Day) 1991, Beni Iguana’s Sushi Bar opened it's doors for business. It was founded by Betsy Hutton and her son Todd Reinhard on the island of St. John, in the United States Virgin Islands, and was the only Sushi bar here at that time. We began by importing Japanese Sushi chefs from New York and New Jersey for the first two years of operation. During those years Betsy and Todd learned the art of Sushi and developed their own unique style which separates Beni Iguana’s from other sushi bars around the world.

In May of 1995, we moved from St. John to the island of St. Thomas, into the historical building of the Grand Galleria Hotel, one of the oldest hotels on the island, in the heart of downtown Charlotte Amalie. Here we established a solid reputation, due to the growing popularity of sushi in America, and continues to introduce sushi to the local residents of our community.

Beni Iguana’s originated the Iguana Sauce, a creamy sesame dressing that we make ourselves exclusively at Beni Iguana’s (and boy what a pain in the ass it is to make! - Todd Reinhard). Originally designed for our veggie rolls and salads, our patrons started using it for everything else on our menu! In fact, this much sought-after condiment is quickly becoming expected by our regulars like wasabi and soy sauce. From tuna rolls to salmon nigiri, it adds a new twist to complement any meal.
