Description
Once upon a time… On a January morning back in 1990, several businessmen met in the conference room of a local insurance agency to discuss possible solutions to the economic crisis that was gripping the region. They realized that the region had to find a way to stem the alarming flow of businesses, jobs, and private investment out of the area, which were the result of bank failures In New England. These business men recognized also that the region needed to find its own way of better utilizing resources for business and economic sustainability. In the months that followed, their discussions expanded reaching out to other business and civic leaders across the state and region. Collaboratively, they explored the possibilities and began to chart a path to renewed prosperity.
On July 6, 1992, the Council opened its first office at the Belknap County Court House. Since then, it has been providing economic development assistance and business development services to municipalities and existing, new, and prospective businesses. The assistance is on a request basis and without charges or fees.
Today, through its activities the Council continues to strive for a climate that understands not only what sustainable economy is and how it works, but the importance of planning and maintaining the economic infrastructure and well being of our communities and region.
