A. There are many reasons why a senior person might be reluctant to report abuse. Barriers to reporting senior abuse are described at this link.

A. There is no specific criminal offence of senior abuse. However, many of these abuses are criminal offences under the Criminal Code of Canada -- such as Theft, Forgery, Extortion, Assault, Intimidation, Threats, and Failure to Provide the Necessities of Life. Very few criminal offences against seniors are brought to the Criminal Justice System. B.C. uses the Adult Guardianship Act to protect older adults from abuse. Legislation that protects seniors from abuse is discussed at this link.
