Fraser River Fishing Guides part of the Fraser Valley Guides Association
Description
Early in 2000 a small group of angling guides began discussing the need to develop an organization for all Fraser Valley angling guides to provide a unified group to speak to both levels of government and to achieve a high level of guiding professionalism in a rapidly growing industry. The idea of the organization was founded by Marc Laynes, Fred Helmer, Frank Staiger and Steve Arcand. It was greatly assisted by two other individuals not involved in the guiding industry at all, namely Greg Latham and Jane McIvor. It was with the tremendous knowledge and assistance of these two key persons that put the Fraser Valley Angling Guides Association (FVAGA), a non-profit, registered society, onto paper. With the paperwork and a few ideas as our base, our inaugural meeting of the FVAGA was on June 19th, 2000.
Five objectives were formed as the basis for the need of the organization. These objectives were voted on and agreed to during the course of our progress.
a) To provide a collectively singular and concise voice to the governments of both the Province and Canada, in regards to Angling Guides Policies and regulations, sport fishing opportunities and the promotion of the direct and indirect economic benefit of sport fishing and angling guide operations in the Province of British Columbia, specifically the Fraser Valley region.
