- ABOUT THE BOOK
- There are some key changes in this second edition. Firstly, I have included more of the ancillary orders that are available for specific offences. These are set out more clearly at the beginning of each section. Secondly, there are two years of statistics for the offences which the Home Office keep data. Thirdly, I have expanded the section at the beginning of the book dealing with the traditional way sentences are constructed, (see page vii). Fourthly, I have increased the number of offences included to make the book as comprehensive as possible. Fifthly, I have improved the index as I know how irritating it is when key words are not included in an index. Sixthly, I have endeavoured to incorporate all the key changes made by the Criminal Justice Act 2003 and the Sexual Offences Act 2003 which have so altered sex offences and sentencing. When incorporating those Acts, I have tried to help the reader by incorporating both the old law for the older offences, the old sentencing powers for those offences when they apply, the new offences and the new sentencing law making it clear which is the key date to determine which law applies. Where there are relevant principles for the old offences I have incorporated them in the chapters for the new offences.
