Description
Bandicoot Books started in October 1992 after Steve took leave from teaching and he and Marion collaborated on their first book, Bo Bandicoot at the Market. Steve taught highschool art and Marion was a speech pathologist but Marion draws and designs the books. And Steve paints them.
Like other writers and illustrators, the difficulties of getting a publishers attention led them to publishing their own books. It has been an adventure working together. They interact with their readers in schools and at Salamanca Market in Hobart where they sell their books each Saturday.
Marion and Steve work as one artist. They live and have their studio in a rural setting south of Hobart, Tasmania. There are a few sheep, and one friendly cat that is locked up at night to save the local fauna. Lately, a precocious dark brown pademelon thumps around outside the house in the dead of night. They have three adult children one of whom, Luke, teaches Humanities at the same school where Steve taught for 20 years.
