Bangla SMS : 3SM Systems
Description
3SM Systems is a group of freelance programmers. They are all currently studying in the Computer Science and Engineering Department of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. They are the pioneers of Bangla SMS in Bangladesh. They have developed two different Bangla SMS solutions so far. The picture based solution has been launched by pioneering mobile operator Pacific Bangladesh Telecom Limited (Citycell) as their value added service on the 13th of May, 2005. This was preceded by an agreement signed between 3SM Systems and Citycell on April 26, 2005. The system they implemented converts Bangla Messages in English alphabet into Bangla Messages in Bangla alphabet and then transforms it into a compatible picture message. Hardware support for Bangla text messaging is not yet available. Hence, 3SM Systems has released a text based solution free for public download for the Java enabled mobile sets and it is independent of operators. Bangladeshi users located at more than 63 countries of the world are currently using this free software. This project has already been showcased by BASIS at the SoftEXPO 2005 and has been selected under the IT Innovation Search Program.
