- Bill Hartel founded Pennant Race Products in 1989 to provide unique, extremely limited edition baseball souvenirs to ballpark fans. A dentist by day, entrepreneur by night, and baseball fan year round, his first product was the Wrigley Field Playoff dirt pen which contained infield "Diamond Dust" collected at Wrigley Field on the day of the first 1989 NL Playoff game. He also produced notarized postcards impregnated with the infield dirt postmarked on the day of the game at the Wrigleyville post office.
