- I am a 27-year-old freelance writer living in Brooklyn -- a long way from where I grew up in Chicago, and even further from where I was born in Memphis, Tennessee. I have written extensively on women, politics, and popular culture for The Nation, Salon, Dissent, AlterNet, and The Philadelphia Inquirer, among other publications. I've also been published in three recent or forthcoming anthologies: Grave Concerns: Critical Approaches to Six Feet Under, Reading Sex and the City, and The W Effect: Bush's War on Women, edited by Laura Flanders. In the past year or two, I have been unable to escape issues like welfare, women's popular culture, people's views of women's popular culture, single women, marriage, motherhood, sex education, consumerism, HBO, self help, the South, white trash culture, nostalgia, and my undying desire to live and/or travel to as many places as possible (last stop: China).
