Title
Archeo Gallery - Gabbeh Rugs, Javanese Furniture, and African Art.
Description
Excerpted from the website:
- In the Zagros mountains of Persia, nomadic women of the Qashqa’i tribe hand knot exquisite wool rugs called gabbehs, weaving into each the vibrant colors and symbols of tribal life. On the Indonesian island of Java, artisans create furniture of teak wood, held together not with nails and screws but with pegs and dovetails using centuries old techniques. On another continent, in another time, an African Chief carves wood into sculpture, aesthetics are secondary. This piece is designed to summon his gods, to ask for good health, or honor his ancestors.
