this blog rose from the ashes of several old domain names i registered back when i first started exploring the internet. at various times it's been uncommonground.net, anilive.net, and finally annatopia.com. each incarnation was intended as a space to track news which interested me; news which i wished to preserve before being sucked into the memory hole. the sites were secondarily geared towards an earnest style of journalling not found in the "i had a bagel for breakfast today" type of personal weblogs. finally at annatopia.com, everything gelled and i carved out an online identity of my own.
i became an activist thanks to the profound experiences i enjoyed as a volunteer for howard dean's presidential campaign. i was an early online adopter, being one of the original team members of the weblog dean nation. we accomplished much there and i'd like to think we can be credited with helping to fuel the fire. certainly we were a nexus for much of the online activity surrounding the campaign.
i've kept the promise to help take our country back by sitting on the advisory board of blogPAC, an organisation dedicated to waging politics entirely online. i also serve as a democratic precinct chair in north texas and continue to work towards electing good democrats at the local level. i believe that the party has to rebuild from the ground up, and we are obligated to do the heavy lifting.
