Naturally the Michael Jackson "memorial" variety show was all over the television today. Having been asked my kid to DVR it, I managed to listen to most of it. I was struck by several things as I went back and forth in the house getting coffee, going out to smoke etc... I couldn't help but think, as I watched snippets of this thing, that the main reason most of those people were there (with notable exceptions, I hasten to add) was to make themselves feel better. I thought that Lionel Richie and Stevie Wonder were fairly genuine. Stevie Wonder especially. Brooke Shields' comments seemed to ring true to me. I saw a replay of her as she spoke and she was obviously moved. And then there was Al Sharpton. See, the amazing thing about Al Sharpton is that he NEVER misses an opportunity to inject race into something. Given his track record for such things, it is hardly a surprise that Sharpton used the MJ memorial as a soapbox for his latest racially laced nonsense.
