Since 1900, AMF has been a worldwide leader in the recreation industry. At one time it owned companies such as Harley Davidson, Head Tennis Racquets, Ben Hogan Golf Equipment, Voit Basketballs, Hatteras Yachts and many smaller, industrial companies along with its core AMF Bowling business.
AMF Billiards & Games has its roots in many places. Renaissance, which was founded in the early 1960s, is known worldwide for its extensive collection of hand-crafted pool tables that command the highest prices in the industry. In the 1970s a small billiard company began in central Missouri that would become known as PlayMaster, merging with the Renaissance Company in Bland, Missouri. AMF bought this company in the early 1990s and has since made it a global leader in the Billiards industry.
Today, AMF continues to make pool tables the “old-fashion” way in the tiny and appropriately named town of Bland, a village of about 600 people located in the foothills of the Ozark mountains. For generations, all of our tables have been hand-sanded and hand-finished – just as craftsman have done for centuries – which allows the finish to better penetrate the wood and retain its warmth and quality for years.
