- Altcaster has been in development since 2006 in response to the increasing convergence of televised and web based content. Existing products that produced so called “Live Blogs” for televised events were simply web pages that were occasionally refreshed by readers. Chatrooms, forums and discussion boards often denigrated into a place for spammers and a small handful of people who felt the need to dominate the group. Altcaster took the concept of instant messaging and combined it with the idea that an informed, smart writer could make television content even better for their readers. From there, content (video, audio, images) and interactive (polls, viewer questions) features began to fall into place.
