- Allister has been a songwriter since childhood, playing from the age of 5, writing since the age of 13, and learning a little more about the process with every song he writes.
- For years he wrote songs by instinct, with no formal songwriting training. Then, in the mid-1990's, he began to attend seminars and song evaluations run by the Songwriters Association of Canada (SAC). An active member of the SAC, Allister has learned from some of the best Canadian songwriters and industry people, and from excellent teachers like Pat Pattison from Berklee College of Music.
