- Alexi Freeman was born in Hobart in 1978, on Christmas Eve, with Russian Jewish and German heritage. He works and exhibits across the mediums of painting, printmaking, animation, fashion and costume design. He is a 2004 graduate of UTAS, majoring in printmaking. In 2000, Alexi had a sellout painting show Genies, Gypsies & Giants and launched his own designer fashion label, A.Freeman (formerly known as A.Freeman Design) in 2001 in Melbourne. Alexi stocked numerous boutiques in Melbourne and Sydney, as well as making made to measure garments for performers and private clients. In 2002, Alexi moved to New York City and continued to develop his painting and design practice, before returning to study in Hobart in 2003. In 2005 Alexi launched The Torso Collection, a suite of self-portraitorial drypoint etchings on paper and silk (made to measure garments). He also started stocking Love & Clutter ( Hobart), Lupa and ente.com.au (Melbourne) and piecenyc.com (NYC) with his hand printed, limited edition and one of a kind t-shirts and accessories. In 2006 he became a recipient of the Manufacturing Design Fund from Arts Tasmania, which helped launch his first Spring/Summer Women's Wear Collection for 2006/2007. He lives and works in Melbourne, Australia.
