- A need for recognition and organization of professional land surveyors became apparent during the fall of 1959 when public hearings were held by the then "Territorial Board of Engineers and Architects Examiners" to review an upgrading of the law governing the engineering and architectural fields. The new law, as proposed by various elements of the professions, would have virtually eliminated the field of practice of the professional land surveyor. The few land surveyors who recognized this problem decided to attempt to call the others together to review this problem and perhaps combat it by having enough persons present some organized opposition to receive due consideration.
- A form letter was sent to all land surveyors in the Territory calling for a Saturday afternoon meeting in Anchorage.
