- What's it like here RIGHT NOW? Check out our current weather above. We average just enough annual rainfall to avoid being a desert -- about 14 inches a year. Without irrigation, this area would look much like the central African Plains -- a savannah -- with dead grass in the summer with a few trees in or near the dried-up watercourses, and green (grassy/weedy) in the winter. It very rarely goes below freezing -- a very few snowflakes have been reported in the last 25 years or so, but not enough to call it snow.
