- ACDS is comprised of independently practicing Licensed Mental Health, Substance Use, and Family Therapy professionals who (1) are challenged by disabilities that preclude practicing their profession(s) within a "traditional" Monday through Friday, 8:00- 5:00 p.m. employment schedule, (2) have "family" responsibilities that preclude practicing their profession(s) within a "traditional" Monday-Friday, 8:00-5:00 p.m. employment schedule, (3) are "friends" or family members of persons challenged by disabilities, and/or (4) are Mental Health, Substance Use, and Family Therapy professionals who desire to meet the American Counseling Association's (ACA) Ethical Guidelines "in establishing fees for professional counseling services, counselors consider the financial status of clients . . . and . . . assist clients in attempting to find comparable services of acceptable cost" and "to contribute to society by devoting a portion of their professional activity to services for which there is little or no financial return (pro bono publico)". To this end, ACDS' professionals schedule appointments in a variety of settings including, but not limited to, the professional's full-time employment setting, private practice office(s), home occupation office, or appropriate other office or by providing home-based services in the client's home (a service delivery model that is particularly effective in working with families). ACDS also affords Mental Health & Substance Use Professionals opportunities to accept professional work in a particular area of interest within a schedule that meets both the professional's and consumers' needs.
