Throughout the 1960's and 1970's can suppliers followed a business model that leveraged can sales with canning equipment and service. Therefore they provided equipment and service cheaply in exchange for long term can purchasing contracts. This business model was slowly being phased out in the 1980's. ABC Lid Machine Company began in 1981 to fill the growing gap in the can seaming service market.
