Description
Excerpted from the website:
- The most recent count (March 2009) found 2,749 homeless students attending the Charlotte-Mecklenburg public schools. For children with no permanent residence, school is the one place that should provide structure in a life of transition. Homeless children have well-documented tendencies to change schools frequently, lag behind their peers academically, have gaps in enrollment, and suffer twice as many illnesses and three times as many emotional issues as children with stable housing. But there is hope for homeless children -- and help -- through A Child's Place. Founded in 1989, A Child's Place works to erase the impact of homelessness on children and their education.
