4DSP Inc. is an engineering services provider, producer of FPGA Intellectual Property (IP) Cores, board level products and turn key solutions for high-speed Digital Signal Processing (DSP) applications.

4DSP's product development is driven by technological advances in the semiconductor industry, bringing together state-of-the-art FPGA devices, General Purpose Processors (GPP), Analog-to-Digital (A/D) converters and high speed communication links for real time, low power and small footprint solutions.

When implementation must yield maximum performance with the least use of FPGA resources and PCB real-estate in a small confined space, 4DSP provides quick-turn "Plug-n-Play" board level solutions as well as "Build-to-Print" turn-key Systems. 4DSP's Engineering Services are technical services made available to customers or prospective customers interested in engaging 4DSP for the purpose of product development, feasibility studies, technical research or any other request for the services of the 4DSP Engineering Department.

The 4DSP Engineering Services team is comprised of experienced application and design engineers whose charter is to dedicate themselves to carrying out the development of customer specific requests.

Such Engineering Services are available on an international basis, providing customers support in North America, Europe and Asia. Documentation of work performed is available in multiple languages, including English, French and Dutch. Other languages may be accommodated upon request.


Product Development

Custom product development can be provided in a built-to-specification. 4DSP product development engineers can help you to formulate new product concepts. We can follow through with documents to accurately quantify your requirements and assure an on-target delivery of the development.

  • Design inputs: technical information, definition and description of the product, specification documents, hardware methodology, software routines and the responsibilities for each party involved.
  • Timescales: delivery estimate date, project milestones.
  • Deliverables: definition of the list of hardware, software and firmware elements and the list of the associated costs constituting the delivery according the timescales.

  • Verification: definition of the processes and procedures required to ensure the deliverables meet the criteria set out prior the start of the project.
  • Validation: definition of the processes and procedures required to commit by the customer to ensure that the deliverables meet the expectations outlined in the initial specification document.
  • Production: definition of the timescales to be expected for the delivery of the production units, and the associated costs if any.
  • Maintenance: define a methodology for sparing and maintenance to meet a given requirement.

Third Party Research and Integration Services

4DSP can integrate 4DSP products with those hardware and software products sourced from third parties, including customer proprietary product designs. 4DSP can help you kick-start your project by setting up your initial system configuration which may contain third-party components. Customers may drop-ship third-party components to 4DSP, where a customers system may be assembled and set-up. Software and firmware can be set up and modified to bring up a proof-of-concept or other starting point for and customers to do demonstrations and begin proprietary development. The objective is to provide direct assistance in setting up your system to provide you with a working solution from which you may start your own custom development.

System Set-Up and Training

Set-Up, Training and hands-on support for assembling and bringing up a particular hardware and software configuration.

  • Configuration set-up and training may be provided on-site at our Customers facility or in one of our facilities located in Reno, Nevada, USA or in our European Offices located in the Netherlands.
  • Technical Support and Training can be provided on-site at your facilities.
  • 4DSP engineering staff can be present during your critical development demonstration phases.

Embedded Processor

The future of embedded computing lies within FPGAs' versatility and their ability to deliver more processing performances at a lower cost than any other device. Embedded processors combined with Intellectual Property cores in the same FPGA provide flexibility and scalability. The diagram below shows one of our generic FPGA architectures for a Software Defined Radio transceiver CompactPCI card with a Virtex-4 or Virtex-5. Please note that this design could equally be implemented in a Xilinx Spartan-3, an Altera Stratix-II, a Cyclone II or Cyclone III device.
