- Timeline: In 1950- 1953 my parents opened a Gift Shop in the New Market, VA called the Virginia Motel (which became the Battlefield Motel - US Rt. 11) & then moved it to a real log cabin which is still standing today in the town proper. Because it was a log cabin and previously an Antique Shop, everyone came looking for Antiques. They closed the Gift Shop with all those beautiful items, put them in storage and opened an Antiques Shop. When they later moved to Harrisonburg, VA their shop moved with them to several locations and again on to Hampton, Newport News, and finally Williamsburg, VA. By 1980 they both had passed away so everything was put into storage.
