Title

Linda Elliott

Description

Harpist Linda Elliott was raised in Springfield, Ill., the middle sibling in a family that now includes a dentist, a physician and an attorney. Her calling, however, was more ethereal.

As a psychology student at Brescia College - a private Catholic school - in Kentucky, the Irish-Italian woman was introduced to the harp purely by accident. Soon thereafter, she changed her major to music and purchased her first Celtic harp. While at Brescia, she took lessons from Sister Mary Cecelia Payne, whose teacher once taught Harpo Marx the basics of the romantic, stringed instrument. Later, Linda studied at Springfield College's Conservatory of Music, under the tutelage of St. Louis Symphony musician, Maria Pinckney.

A 14-year stint as a restaurant manager ended in 1994 when the call of her music grew too strong to ignore. Since then, Linda has been a full-time harpist and started a business she calls Harp Lady Productions. That's also the name of the record label on her two recordings -- Pure Harp, a collection of some of her favorite harp selections such as Greensleeves and Saltarella, and Holiday Harp, which contains 23 carols selected for seasonal listening. Several of her own creations, inspired by her love of nature and her extended family, also appear on her cassette tapes and CDs.
