History of Vickers

In 1997, Dr. Finian Tan left Goldman Sachs as Regional Director and Head of J. Aron and Co (Singapore) Pte. in charge of Asia Pacific Region to join the Singapore Government as Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Trade and Industry. Whilst there, he was charged with turning Singapore into the Silicon Valley of the East and he proposed a $1 billion fund which was approved by the Cabinet and he became the co-chairman of the TIF fund in 1999 to invest in venture capital in Asia.

In 2000, he resigned from the government and founded the Asian team for DFJ ePlanet as Partner and Head of Asia. Over five years, he recruited three young professionals and together invested almost $41 million in 13 companies, including Baidu. Baidu went public on NASDAQ in 2005 and as of March 2015 was worth over $70 billion, more than 2,000 times at the point of investment.

In 2005, Dr. Finian Tan and his partners, Drs. Khalil Binebine, Jeffrey Chi and Damian Tan and Ms. Linda Li founded Vickers Venture Partners.
