- The Cheri Theatre was built in 1967 and started out as a single screen theatre with 600 seats. Then it was called the Capri Theatre. The Capri was one of the first theatres with rocking chair seats. In 1968 the single auditorium was split into 2 auditoriums. In 1969 an addition was built on to include a 3rd screen and the name was changed to Cheri Theatres. In 1989 two of the screens were split into 4 screens making a total of 5 screens. In 1997 two 290 stadium seating auditoriums were added and the main lobby was expanded. This addition increased the total number of screens to 7. The Cheri was the first theatre in Kentucky to have stadium seating auditoriums. Over the years there have been many additions and the theatre has gone through many renovations. Our third biggest auditorium was converted to stadium seating in 2002 and in 2005 another auditorium was converted to stadium seating. As of today the Cheri has 7 auditoriums with a seating capacity of 1350.
