- In the early 1990s, motorcycle enthusiast and graduate engineer Curt Leaverton was searching for replacement connecting rods for his vintage OSSA motorcycle. The parts, however, were expensive and difficult to locate as the bike was no longer produced. While on vacation, Curt's wife, Evelina, introduced him to a parts manufacturer who made OSSA connecting rods. Curt knew that other OSSA owners experienced the same frustration in locating the parts as he did, so he purchased an additional 100 connecting rods. When he got back he made two calls and sold them all. In addition to rods for vintage bikes, Curt and Evelina were convinced there was a need for modern motorcycle rods. Hot Rods was born!
