History

Baker Hughes Incorporated is the combination of many creative market leaders of the technical solution providers of the petroleum service industry. In 1907, Reuben C. Baker designed and implemented a casing shoe that revolutionized cable tool drilling. Baker soon began making downhole tools to help oil & gas production, set casing and deploy cementing tools. On the other side, in 1909, Howard R. Hughes, Sr. created the first roller cutter bit that dramatically improved the rotary drilling process. Following this, in a mater of eight decades, Baker International and Hughes Tool Company became worldwide leaders in well completions, drilling tools and related services. In 1987, both these companies merged to form Baker Hughes Incorporated.

During its successful journey, the company went in for several significant acquisitions including Brown Oil Tools, EDECO, CTC, and Elder Oil Tools (completions); EXLOG (mud logging); Milchem and Newpark (drilling fluids); Teleco (measurement while drilling); Eastman Christensen and Drilex (directional drilling and diamond drill bits); Tri-State and Wilson (fishing tools and services); Aquaness, Chemlink and Petrolite (specialty chemicals), Western Atlas (seismic exploration, well logging).

Baker Hughes Incorporated has seven divisions organized under two distinct segments namely Drilling and Evaluation segment and the Completion and Production segment.
