Faculty of Agriculture, Makerere University
Agriculture is one of the pioneer academic units at Makerere University. It was started in 1924 as part of the technical school setup to offer intermediate education across East Africa. Its prominence derives from the role played by agriculture both in the livelihoods of the people as well as the economy of Uganda. In the early days, a Certificate in Agriculture was awarded after three years of training. In 1936 the course was strengthened by introducing basic science subjects, extending the duration from three to five years and upgrading from a certificate to a Diploma award in Agriculture. The Faculty has grown much bigger today and is dedicated to advancing agricultural development through training, knowledge generation and service delivery in Uganda and the region. The faculty has a number of departments that include:
