History

The site was launched on October 19th, 2003 as a simple discussion forum focussed mainly on Australian and New Zealand zoos. The original name for the site was ZooBeat and was hosted on ZooBeat.org - although this was later changed to ZooBeat.com

Since that time the site has added a photo gallery, satellite maps and expanded the coverage to zoos worldwide.

On October 19th, 2008 - exactly 5 years after the initial site was launched, the site was redesigned and relaunched as ZooChat.com, aiming to appeal to a broader international audience and cater for a rapidly growing membership.
