Wendy’s is one of the famous fast food chains serving burgers. It was established by Dave Thomas in 1969 and primarily serves hamburgers, sandwiches, French fries and beverages. With over 10,000 branches worldwide, Wendy's is the third largest hamburger fast food chain after McDonalds's (over 31,000) and Burger King's (over 12,000).

The first store opened in Columbus, Ohio in November 1969. In 1970, it opened its first pick up window and in 1972, the first franchise store was build. In a span of 7 years, in 1976, Wendy’s already had over 500 branches. One of Wendy’s specialties, the salad bar was introduced in 1979 and in 1983 baked potatoes were added to the menu. 1984 was a memorable year for Wendy’s because it celebrated it's 15th anniversary with more than 3,000 branches in 15 countries globally. In 1994, it had increased it's branches to 4,400 in almost 34 countries around the world.

Products and/or Services

Wendy’s claims to provide the quality of food needed by the body. Wendy’s is known for its ground beef hamburgers which are made only when there is an order for it.

Another product is the Chicken sandwich where the chicken is either grilled or breaded. These days, it is already included in their menu and is one of the most popular sandwiches that they have.

Wendy’s is also the pioneer in offering the salad bar and baked potatoes. They also offer smaller size of meals exclusive for kids. They give an additional toy to make the meal more appealing. They also offer value meals for customers who avail the combo set.

Distribution Channels

Advertisement helps in creating a brand name, because of the quality and service of Wendy’s, people started to recognize it. Wendy's used commercials that featured Clara Peller in 1984. She popularized the words ‘Where’s the Beef?’ and people stated to associate Wendy’s store with it. After a year, she was replaced by the man himself in the commercials, Dave Thomas stared in Dave ads which introduced their products and quality service to customers. After he died, he was replaced by Mr. Wendy’s, the unofficial spokesperson of Wendy’s.

In addition to advertisements, Wendy’s also featured in some shows for product placements. One of the shows was the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, where the workers were served with Wendy’s. Product placement was also made in movies like Click, The Day After Tomorrow and Garfield: The Movie. Nintendo tied up with Wendy’s for cross-promotion. For every special Wendy’s product, a code was given to the customer which he entered through a site to win a Nintendo Wii.

Wendy’s main competitors are other fast-food chains like Mc Donald, Carl’s Jr. and Burger King. They have the same market and almost the same hamburger products. What makes Wendy’s different from them is it's quality of food and service. Wendy’s has a special Wendy’s Management Institute which helps managers, franchisees and supervisors improve their customer relation and management skills.
