edit Live Web

Not only is AboutUs an introduction to The Live Web for you, we help you promote yourself on the web. Like a Saturday market with 7 million people attending each month, by setting up a booth (a wiki page), you have something to offer them. Think of it as access to a top 1000 site that you have collaborative constructive control to build.

Not proper English, well domain names aren't proper english, we are in the internet age...

Come on film industry get out of the 20th century. Your audience is in the 21st century.

but BlahBlahBlah-movie.com shows you don't have the one you need, but it is a bludgeon. You have to bludgeon your way through if you don't have the skills or tools to get you idea off the ground.

edit Wlog

From Estigmergia.net:

edit Interwiki linking

We've discussed this before and I'd really like to build out a good article on how to interwiki link and then start teaching people about it via weblog post and placing (or transcluding) a quick "how to" on the DomainPages for all of the wikis on the interwiki list.

Resources/places to start on these:

  • InterWiki -- a real convoluted series of notes on how to do the linking.
  • Special:Interwiki -- the table of who's in the list and where to add new wikis

edit Personal Pages (and how to improve them)

It's obvious that the Personal Pages scaffold we put up a couple of weeks ago with the portrait is going well. How about a series of weblog posts on improving these pages.

  • How is it obvious?
  • How to size and pick a portrait
  • Now that you've uploaded a portrait, what now?
  • Linking your Personal Page to the websites/domains and people you care about (and improving those pages as well).
  • etc.

edit Team weblog check-in post

Maybe have a task in each team (Dev, Content, Community, Admin) that's once an iteration help pair on a weblog post about what your team is working on, excited about, etc. (similar to the outlined "welcoming people" above).

edit RSS Feeds for Page History

HOLD ON TO THIS

Write a post about how to use RSS to get updates on page history changes (in addition to using the "Watch" function). There's probably a help article in this as well. -- TakKendrick and MarkDilley

edit ESRG

Ward is really interested in ESRG and would like to maybe blog about this in the upcoming week. We're also interested in maybe using this as a "test case" since Ward's already tracking ESRG on Google searches to see what putting it into a weblog post might do to the search results. Update: The guy who'd been building out the great ESRG pages will be in the office on Oct. 3, so we're planning on holding off on this weblog post for a couple weeks so we can do a sort of "interview" with him as part of the post.

edit Giving images to Creative Commons

JohnStanton and TakKendrick -- Post talking about this post: http://searchengineland.com/070911-083723.php on how uploading images onto Wikipedia (in our case AboutUs) can result in some great link love if the caption/licensing information is done correctly. We'd also like to do up a nice article for the wiki on this as well as the actual blog post.

edit Technical Details on how AboutUs works

  • servers, bandwidth, caching, squids, aka how does AboutUs.org serve millions of pageviews every month? --Simon | talk 14:22, 20 November 2007 (PST)

edit google maps

I've had a lot of fun (and some tears) creating a few of these maps and figuring them out. I'm contemplating a post about how I've sort of been using my Geography degree here at AboutUs and link people to the help page on how to do this, which I think needs some work before I do this post. Kristina (contact me) 16:28, 17 July 2008 (PDT)

edit Guide

Something about the whole "guide" thing. Perhaps explaining a bit about why we think this is what we are or are becoming, and asking for the community's feedback on this concept/word. Kristina (contact me) 17:26, 8 August 2008 (PDT)

Since the beginning of AboutUs we have been trying to find the best (and easiest to understand) way to describe what AboutUs is and what we are creating. At various times insiders and outsiders have referred to AboutUs as many things from a wiki of websites, an editable domain directory, ______, ______ and ______.
Currently we are working on our vision of what AboutUs is, and there is one word that we'd like you to try on for size: guide. The idea here is that AboutUs is a guide to websites, the web, the Internet, etc. How does that feel? And the real measure: Could you sum up AboutUs in that way for a computer/web illiterate relative and have them understand?
Let us know what you think by commenting below. How do you describe AboutUs? What is it to you?

edit Cool Blog Posts about AboutUs

When we get a cool new blog post about it perhaps we could blog about it in return and reference a few of the cool posts about us and what points they raise. Kristina (contact me) 17:34, 8 August 2008 (PDT)

edit About newsletter going out

Can we link them to a version of it on the wiki and is there a way they can make sure to get the next one via email if they didn't this one? Can we mention how many people it went out to? Kristina (contact me) 16:29, 20 August 2008 (PDT)

edit page rank case study

This is mostly from Corey, but Ted has the stuff in his email to copy here. TedErnst (talk) 23:06, 21 August 2008 (PDT)

edit PageRank

I think it might be helpful to post about our PageRank conundrum. This way I could link people to this post to explain what the deal is, and perhaps someone would be able to comment and point us in the right direction. Kristina (contact me) 19:00, 6 October 2008 (PDT)

I love it! Great idea. TedErnst (talk) 07:51, 8 October 2008 (PDT)
