What is WAY?

A charity run entirely by volunteers, providing a self-help support network for men and women widowed up to the age of 50. Members and their families make contact with each other in order to give and receive support.

Who founded it and why?

In 1994, Caroline Sarll's sister, 35 and pregnant with her first child, lost her husband. Their father had also died young, 25 years previously, leaving their mother a young widow, isolated and unable to find support outside the family. Recalling her own grief as a child, and the experience of their mother, Caroline set about finding help and support for her sister. After discovering the woeful lack of any type of organisation in the UK for those widowed young, she set up one herself, and WAY was launched in 1997. It now has approx 1200 members.

What can WAY offer?

Everyone at WAY has been through what you're going through now. WAY can offer support, help and above all, understanding. Whatever you're feeling, be it confusion, anger, hurt, bewilderment or simply great sorrow, it's something everyone at WAY is familiar with. To benefit members, WAY offers practical support such as:
