Wacky World Records

Gerald Wacky wasn't born with any significant natural skills, yet strived tirelessly to become recognised as being exceptional in something .... anything.

Despite yearning to become a World Champion, all his efforts failed miserably and for much of his early life he looked on in envy at others - oh how he wished he'd been born gifted but it wasn't to be ..... until one day.

Walking through the park he spotted a squirrel up a tree and pointed it out to friends. To cut a long story short (extended version here) he undertook extensive research and established a new world record for pointing at a tree.

With renewed vigour Gerald Wacky set about the task of informing the relevant authorities of his World Record achievement and swiftly set about arranging press conferences as well as re-mortgaging his house to invest in an extensive new wardrobe of clothes in anticipation of countless television appearances. Unfortunately this did not transpire and his new World Record for tree pointing did not even warrant response from any official organisation that monitors such events. Undaunted, and vowing to ensure that World Record Holders like himself would no longer be ignored, he established an organisation that would finally recognise all achievements no matter how insignificant they might seem to others - Wacky Records

Gerald Wacky has since continued his World Record breaking spree, with over 4,000 new records achieved to date. One of his proudest moments was when he awarded himself the title of 'The World's Record Breaking World Champion Record Breaker'. Now you too can become a record holder and impress family and friends.

Can anyone become a Wacky Records World Champion ?

Of course, absolutely anyone, even if you weren't born naturally gifted. Now, YOU have the opportunity to become a Wacky Records World Champion and then send Gerald some photos or video to appear on the Wacky Records Website.

Think of a World Record, any World record and be creative. Remember, Gerald Wacky's first record was pointing at a tree and there are lots of things out there he hasn't pointed at yet.

EXAMPLE: Point at your dog* - plus it's a record that can't be broken by anyone else because it's YOUR dog not theirs. (unless by your immediate family who also have access to your dog). Or you could beat your neighbour to his record breaking attempt by pointing at his dog first. It may be a short lived record (but still a record at the time) because once he gets wind of your devilish plan he may call the dog in and spend the rest of his day pointing at it to gazump you. (*substitute dog for cat or goldfish or ferret etc)

FREE GOLD MEDAL & CERTIFIED CERTIFICATE OF CERTIFICATION

Break or set your own world record and award yourself a wacky records medal and certificate.

Is the medal made of gold ? The short answer to that is NO I'm afraid - unless they've started making paper out of gold that is. We did consider awarding real 24 carat gold medals but the estimate we received for their production was a little too prohibitive for our finances. Plus, using paper is the more eco-friendly alternative.

Is the certificate made of paper ? On our server the certificate is actually made of pixels, and through the miracles of modern technology it get's transformed into paper when you print it out.

Featured Text -- Regular readers of AboutUs will know that usually in these "featured blurbs" we like to talk about one or two specific Wiki concepts or techniques that our featured page(s) for the day really encapsulate. Today though, we thought we'd spotlight a variety of WikiPages being built on AboutUs that have their own unique characteristics:

FeaturedPostess.jpg

AboutUs pages can be venues for a lot of information. Take a page like Postess.com for example. This WikiPage provides the usual information about this social network for professionals, complete with a list of free services offered by Postess.com (including job searches, job tools, resume and cover letter building tools, notes, and photo comments). But the Postess.com page goes beyond the usual WikiPage to add feedback from users in their community, and a screen shot of what a Postess.com profile looks like. What was really cool though, was that Postess.com also included some of their recent press releases on their WikiPage, something that more businesses might think about as ways to really spice up their AboutUs presence. Sometimes websites are just silly, and we love it. WackyRecords.com is just a fun site which celebrates the silly events in our life by establishing "Wacky Records" for mundane things, like pointing at a particular tree (or your dog, cat, goldfish, etc). There's really no purpose to these records, other than for the fun of it. The website offers downloadable medals and certificates, all signed by "Gerald Wacky" who himself claims to hold over 4,000 "Wacky Record Medals" for such things as "Most t-shirts worn world record." Beyond being a fun website, the WikiPage for WackyRecords.com does a good job of encapsulating the zaniness of the website with a history for "Gerald Wacky" as well as some fun images. Of course, not all websites are zany. For sites like Stuff4Beauty.com, which specializes in salon hair products at discount prices, their WikiPage utilizes a lot of lists, showing off their various brands with links to their prospective pages on the Stuff4Beauty.com website, as well as information on their new product lines, free beauty services, advice, and free product trial opportunities.
