Integration

Hi Tak - When integrating the "Featured Site" review into the Domain page there was a problem: Your review text was almost the exact same language (verbatim!) as the text of my Description (Whois) paragraph right below it. Nobody wants to read the same thing twice. So I took your one original line and put it right into the 'FS' box itself: click on 'history'. This is the most elegant and streamlined solution. -- Planetarian

(One hour later): Hi again Tak: I liked your very original and fitting "amalgam" line very much. Why did you take it out of my "Featured Site" box? Can it be reinstated there??? Please take another squint at the way I had it arranged prior to your latest edit. Muchas gracias -- please reply

11:54, 16 September Reply to your message: - Thanks for explaining the options. In my case your review is identical to my original and authentic site description. I see that you have put the same Featured Site paragraph back on my Domain page. That really does not work. So, I have removed the repetitive wording of your Featured Site review because it destroys the integrity of the page: nobody wants to read the same thing twice in a row. Please do not put it back in there again! If you want to post the 'Featured Site' review directly on my Domain page, please re-write it, using original text and commentary that is unique and different from what is already said in the site-description, ok? Thanks!

SPASIBO!

Tak, You're faster than a speeding bullet! I appreciate your instant positive feedback and review. Re. your edits: I've put the extra spacing back in because the individual posts are almost running into each other which makes the page too densely packed and hard to read (at least on my old eyes...).

I'm glad you read and liked the Celan translations on our website. Would you consider amending your 'Featured Site' review of the IP.com, so that the fact that you liked the Celan translations is actually mentioned in the body of the 'official' Featured Site review text?!? - This would help the cause.

- SPASIBO (=Thank you) -

Keep on keeping on!

Have a Look...

-:- -:- Howdy Tak!

I recently noticed that your bot harvested the InstaPLANET Domain from the www and created a wiki, so I decided to flesh it out a bit and fancy it up visually... have a look.

If it tickles your fancy, as I hope it will, would you review the site and give us a write-up by way of your "Featured Sites"?

You have a great talent for writing. Being a writer myself, I would appreciate your creative commentary and the front-page spot-light.

Cheers,

Planetarian

Hello Tak! I have a friend and an acquaintence that went to Naropa, when did you attend? Welcome to the wiki way!! ;-) Best, MarkDilley

I was at Naropa from 2002 to 2004. -- TK

Do you know Jess Kuchinski? I think she would've been a year behind you. TedErnst 23:38, 1 September 2006 (PDT)

I think Sean Mackey is perhaps a few years your senior! Did you ever hear of a project to send a new writing, a poem in his case, each day for a year to a small town in the U.S.? MarkDilley

Mark, I knew a couple of Sean's at Naropa. What was his last name? There've been numerous projects of that ilk, although I'm not familiar with that one in particular. It seemed like every week someone was telling us about a new writing project that they launched or started doing.

Another BIG Thank you!

Thank you as well for helping to clean up our page - KoreanDramas.net I tried to keep an eye on it but I wasn't able to recently. Thanks for picking up my slack!

Featured Site

Thank you for making us the featured site! KoreanDramas.net

Thanks

Thanks Tak, I am also excited to be here at Aboutus. Hope to make more contributions to the community in future. Joe

articles

I'd love to talk with you about ideas for articles. I've been working on getting sites related to the Humanist Movement, Humanist Party and Silo's message in here over the past 2 days. Maybe there's an article there, somehow? TedErnst 23:38, 1 September 2006 (PDT)

Patrick

Hey TakKendrick, I see that you seem to be reverting a lot of [[User:Patrick}Patrick]]'s edits and it looks to me like they are done to better the wiki and done in good faith, is there a reason for these reverts? --Simon | talk 22:52, 6 September 2006 (PDT)

Simon, while I believe that Patrick was acting in good faith, what he was doing was against our Internal Linking Guide. I discussed it with Mark Dilley and we both agreed that the proper course of action was to rollback those changes, in part because there's no way to differentiate between pages that were actually related to his and ones that weren't. In past conversations with Ray and Mark about it, we sort of decided that that's part of why there's the category system. --TakKendrick 01:20, 7 September 2006 (PDT)

Hey Mark and Tak, on regards to User:Patrick, it looks like what he is doing is helping, he's dosen't seem to be against the Internal Linking Guide he hasn't made a lot of external links, most of them are internal and properly done. He's also trying to promote the english version of the site and not the french one. In the internal linking guide it says nothing about your not allowed to change links just don't pump the page with them. I really don't see why all his edits are being reverted. I always believe that a wiki you should believe somebody is trying to help the wiki, until you have solid proof. --Simon | talk 09:10, 9 September 2006 (PDT)

Response to Simon re: Internal Linking Guide: Hey Simon, I agree that AssumeGoodFaith is a standard to operate by in wiki. I think we are worried that people that make a bunch of edits in others related sites fields are doing internal link spam. Patrick did ~150 of them. We tried to make this clear with this statement. Please don't over do it, however. If you're adding more than 20 such links or you're putting up links on very popular and not directly related sites, then you're overdoing it and it will look like spam to us. And if you noticed, I held off on doing that to a couple of people last night so we could flush out this conversation, (which I will somehow move to a discussion page.) Best, MarkDilley

Nice project you have here

Tak, good luck with this wiki. It's a nice concept that I will tell people about.

I am actually making a Streetplay wiki that we hope to launch in the upcoming month, and I too am immersing myself in wikiLand. FWIW, the page I posted is essentially our own wiki "about" page w/o internal links.

Template suggestion

As I surf around AboutUs.org, I do often get to a site I'd like to visit. It took me a few beats to intuit that I should click on the site screen grab to get to the site itself... suggest adding the text "visit [thissite.com] as a caption to the thumbnail. I'd think that link should be its own section in each entry, too.

-hm

I am moving this to the Suggestion Box. MarkDilley

Thanks

Thank you for having such a wonderful site and for the compliments. I'll try to keep my site update and perhaps will help out on others when I have time. Thanks again.

Style ideas

I have stylized these two in a way that I personally find more pleasing than the standard template:

Nice work on the front page

I really like the idea of stacking them on top of each other and then falling out the bottom. Real nice touch. MarkDilley, leave messages here

ukexpert

Hi Tak... thanks for all your hard work on this site - amazing effort!

Just one query - a comment "This site requires you to hand over your copyright to any images you upload for any commercial use whatsoever by its partner companies. All posts are moderated heavily and asking open and simple questions about what companies are involved and what commercial use is made of the images will result in your account being banned. Beware of uploading any photos to this site unless you're happy to give them away. " was removed (I posted it in fact)

This is valid information, surely, for anyone who wishes to visit their site? Other reviews here http://www.xomreviews.com/ukexpert.co.uk and here http://www.xomreviews.com/ukexpert.co.uk have a similar viewpoint. (a google groups search will reveal similar information) Is there somewhere else this information should be posted?

Hi. Thanks from your note. I originally took off your post because it seemed like a review (which probably should have been put in the review section). But, you have a point about it being valid information, I'm just worried that it is a little too biased. So, as a compromise, I've added the exact verbage from their website about regarding copyright info, and left your note on the discussion page (although if possible, please move it to the review section). If this doesn't work, let me know. --TakKendrick 15:34, 25 September 2006 (PDT)

Great stuff, will do. Many thanks Tak!

RogerWheatley.com editing

Okay, that was nice to do. Thanks for making the edit on the RogerWheatley.com page. Appreciated the edit you did as I also would not have thought about the name ambiguity. Thanks again!! (Great About Us Wiki by the way!!!)

Weblog

Hi Tak,

The blogspot weblog is only a beta - proof of concept. We will have access to a WordPress weblog soon enough and there is a plug in that allows us to use MediaWiki markup, so we will not have to do any transitioning. I would say don't worry about the weblog just yet, until the WordPress gets up and then we can figure out how to use it with the wiki. As far as my featured site moves, what do you think? Please revert if it doesn't make much sense to you. Best, MarkDilley, leave messages here

THANK YOU!!

Thanks for making my site feature.. very nice! And you did a great job with the images. Thanks

tonight's meeting

Could we meet about 30 minutes earlier than planned? About 8:30 PDT? Thanks! TedErnst 11:09, 11 October 2006 (PDT)

Thankyou!!!!

I loved the changes you made for our listing and was very pleased to see that you also choose it to be one of your featured sites. Thankyou again izmirexpat :)

Thank you from MTARHI

The owner of McKenzie-Taylor & Associates Ltd. (mtarhi.com) asked me to tell you "Thanks muchly" for posting the Sep. 30, 2006 "Featured Site" for that domain and that they (Steven Love) appreciated the recognition from AboutUs.org. Thanks.

Thank you from GreatWeddingNetwork.com!!!!

Hi Tak, I am Marc, owner of the Great Wedding Network. I truly appreciate the internal links and suggestions you made on our listing here in the wiki. I hope you will consider featuring our page.

In any case, AboutUs.com is a very well managed wiki. And, an important contribution to the WWW community. Thanks!

Hi Tak! I am sorry I didn't reply to your message ... I need to remember to log-in whenever I visit! I appreciate your selection of the site. Thanks from a fellow CU alum! Best regards, -Marc
