History

TicketsNow was started in 1992 by current CEO Mike Domek as the VIP Tour Company. Quickly becoming a successful full-service ticketing agency, Mike Domek turned the company towards the internet and launched TicketsNow.com in 1999. After catching the attention of the secondary ticket industry and the media, TicketsNow was featured in Inc. Magazine as one of the “Great Companies Started for $1,000 or Less.” In 2001 the company focused on software and began developing the EventInventory Web store plug-in. The success of the EventInventory, or EI, software turned TicketsNow.com into the world’s largest online marketplace for premium event tickets.

In 2004 CEO Mike Domek was named to Crain’s Chicago Business “40 under 40” due to the success of TicketsNow and its influence on the industry. The success of TicketsNow continues to grow as the company has exceeded 200 hundred employees and grosses in excess of $100 million every year. The growth of the company has led to the construction of the 70,000 square foot TicketsNow Corporate Center in Crystal Lake, Illinois.

Growth

TicketsNow has grown considerably since its inception as the VIP Tour Company in 1992 both financially and strategically. What began as a one man operation in an apartment building has grown to a web based company with a global reach. VIP Tour Company was built on the practice of securing tickets through a wealth of contacts on an individual, or “request” basis. As the company’s contacts and influence began to grow, Mike Domek shifted his focus away from the inefficiency of the current business model and concentrated on the internet. TicketsNow.com was perhaps the company’s largest growth from an operations standpoint as it dramatically increased the reach of the company.

With TicketsNow secured as an Ecommerce company, Domek began to incorporate technology and software into what was an already successful internet based ticket brokerage. In 2001, TicketsNow developed a software, and web store plug-in, program called EventInventory. The development, and implementation, of this new software promoted another large growth period for the company as TicketsNow became the world’s largest online database for brokers to list and sell their tickets on.

In August of 2005 TicketsNow acquired Columbia, IL based rival company Show Me Tickets. The acquisition contained all Show Me assets including their customer data base, marketing infrastructure and customer service operation.

In 2006, TicketsNow leveraged the Enterprise Content Management solution of Interwoven Inc., to redefine TicketsNow.com. The new site launched with an improved focus on the customer experience, and allowed users to tailor the website to their interests and personality. The new site brought consumers even further into the ticket purchasing experience by customizing the content of the site to their needs, in the hopes of increasing customer loyalty.

In March of 2007, TicketsNow closed on its first round of institutional funding by securing $34 million from several venture capitol firms including Adams Street Partners, DFJ Portage Venture Partners and New World Ventures. The funds will be used to continue to grow TicketsNow and secure its position as a leader in the online ticket industry.
